National Musical Association. Catalog of the National Musical Association. Philadelphia, PA: National Musical Association; 1897, 240 p. 9 ¾ by 11 ¾ 5 inches. Includes letter dated June 3, 1897. This soft covered catalogue is made up of seven parts: 1. 80 page index of instrumental and vocal sheet music. 2. musical instruments and accessories consisting of 26 pages. Two prices are given, a members price and a retail price. (This catalog was apparently meant for the trade and was part of an attempt to form a national association for music dealers.) Also included are guitars, a page of banjos and a page of mandolins, pianos, and organs. 3. 2 page explanation of the aim, object and plan of the association as well as "RULES FOR THE ASSOCIATION" and a very ornate certificate of membership which is not filled out. 4. 65 pages titled "Winners Gems Of Music" which appears to be a sheet music sampler of about 45 songs. 5. 18 full-page portraits of famous composers and performers with a brief biographies. 6. 12 full-page prints on various musical inspired themes, The Mandolin Player, The Moslem Harpist etc. 7. 12 blank columnar ledger pages for members to sign up for the proposed association.
