PREFACE

John Playford published five editions of music for the solo lyra viol. The first edition was called Musicall Banquet and was published in 1651. This edition originally included duets for treble and bass instruments, and rounds for multiple human voices. Links to MIDI files of the solo lyra viol music are offered below. The original music has been substantially edited and renumbered to remove all errors and ambiguities. Copies of all  five editions can be purchased from Boulder Early Music Shop.
