Peter H. Adams

Biography

 

 

Mr. Adams resides in Redwood City, California, half way between San Francisco and San Jose. He has been composing classical music since he was 18. He has been performing on the viola da gamba since 1975. His viola da gamba teachers include Carol Herman and Tina Chauncy. In 1981, Mr. Adams received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in Music History. He completed graduate courses in Organology at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, and took Library Science courses at the University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Adams has worked at the Library of Congress, Music Division, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the Crystal City, Virginia Patent Office Library. In California, he worked for Gale Group as a Content Editor.

 

Mr. Adams is currently offering for sale music he has either composed or edited. A list of this music is forthcoming. Mr. Adams has assembled A Selected Bibliography of Historic Musical Instrument Trade Catalogs which appears on this website. In 2009, Scarecrow Press published Mr. Adams' An Annotated Index of Selected Articles from The Musical Courier. This project provides bibliographic access to this major 19th century trade publication that documents almost all aspects of the U.S. music industry. Projected page count is 3,200 pages of text.
